The Chinese technique of acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used integrative procedures in the world. Acupuncture is characterized by the placement of extremely thin needles into the body, and reacts with the brain to release chemicals that reduce pain, regulate hormones, and influence many of the body’s systems.

Acupuncture, similar to other traditional forms of medicine such as cupping, gua sha and reiki, has its origins rooted in a broad concept called “qi” (pronounced “chee”). This sophisticated theory and philosophy factors in emotional, mental and physical well-being. Traditionally, acupuncture is used to help regulate disruptions in “qi” that can cause pain and illness.
A great deal of research has since and continues to be done on acupuncture. Current research in Western medicine shows that acupuncture has an impact on many of the body’s functions, receptors, and systems. It’s demonstrated that it can be effective for a number of conditions.
Studies have shown that acupuncture can help support patients through the cancer process from diagnosis through survivorship. Acupuncture helps patients manage many of the physical and emotional side effects of cancer treatment, including pain, chemotherapy-induced vomiting (CINV), chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), stress and anxiety, fatigue, dry mouth and hot flashes.
Acupuncture is also used as a complementary treatment with in vitro fertilization (IVF) for women struggling with fertility. Acupuncture is known to regulate ovulation and balance the body and hormones, and is used as a supplemental tool in partnership with other fertility treatments.
