Hematologic malignancies are cancers that affect the blood and lymph system, which plays a vital role in immunity from diseases. The blood and lymph system includes the lymph nodes, spleen, and bone marrow.
Our team of hematologists (blood disorder specialists) and medical oncologists provides specialized care for all types of cancers of the blood, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, as well as related disorders of the blood, such as aplastic anemia and myelodysplasia. We discuss every patient’s treatment as a team. We do this to develop the most effective treatment plans based on each patient’s specific condition, medical history, and preferences.
Our doctors have experience with a wide range of blood and lymph system cancers and treatments. Some of these include:
Most blood cancer treatments are given on an outpatient basis, but we also have a dedicated inpatient unit for patients receiving bone marrow transplants. This allows us to carefully monitor patients undergoing more complex treatments.
We also participate in a number of clinical trials to test new treatments. This offers patients advanced treatments that haven’t yet been released to the general public.
Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan (CLF) is a statewide organization that provides education, financial assistance and emotional support to Michigan families affected by leukemia, lymphoma and related blood disorders.
